An authentic, self-driven social media experience.
When people click into the Netflix app, they want to watch shows that are worth their time — whether it’s to relax with good entertainment, to be transported into a whole different dimension, or to simply connect with friends. However, they can’t do that well because:
1.
There is an overwhelming amount of content on the app, making it hard to digest and find something that matches their needs
2.
They don’t want to waste so much time on a show or movie that they might not even end up liking
3.
The recommended content that they find on the app doesn’t feel personalized enough to them
The Problem
Social Media is a Breeding Ground for Comparisons
This creates an unhealthy, toxic mindset surrounding social media. Users are worried about the responses they’ll receive, and feel inclined to post things that will receive the most likes, comments, retweets, etc.
Ultimately, social media encourages conformity not authenticity

Allowing for ownership: Users can control the visibility of posts within their profiles and within groups (communities)
Posting authentically: Enabling images, writing, drawings, and stickers in posts encourages creative mediums that are centralized and diverse. Users can post to groups to reach a targeted audience of common interests.
Controlling your experience: Customize your own timeline to curate certain content from groups you want to see.

Our client wanted their app to stand out in the social media market. Thus, they requested to have a home page/home button where all of the other pages would exist instead of a traditional nav bar.

When we were deciding on how we wanted Collidasphere to look, we kept two things in mind according to our client’s needs:
1. Make sure that the theming fit with Collidasphere’s logo, which is a golden record.
2. The app should emulate cleanliness and sophistication.
Our initial explorations were either too playful, or didn’t align well with gold.
Bringing the Screens to Life: Final Prototype
Rediscovering the Discovery Experience: Comparison-based Recommendations
I came up with a feature idea where users have the ability see review-backed, comparison-based recommendations of additional shows based on ones they already like.
Comparing the new, unfamiliar shows with a show they already know they like will make the recommendations feel more personalized and digestible. Because users will see the human insight on why they would like a recommended show, they'll have more trust in the recommendations and feel more confident going into a show instead of wasting time in frustration scrolling through the overwhelming wall of show and movie posters.

Some Final Thoughts
Key Takeaways
I created a functional, server-side website backed by a database using HTML, PHP, CSS, and SQLite. This site is made to address the goals of both consumers and administrators of the Playful Plants Project.
Self Reflection
Through this project, I learned how to use PHP and SQLite, developing a better understanding of how to build server-side websites and work with databases and queries.
I've also gained a deeper understanding of designing a site with users in mind. By using the GenderMag method to create my user personas, I realized that as a designer, I need to consider multiple factors of a user's experience, such as their different cognitive styles to ensure inclusivity and accessibility.
Looking back on this project, I'm not completely satisfied with some design elements of my site, but I am still proud that I could apply what I learned to create a functional website. While I tried my best to create a usable site and follow best design practices when working on this project, I want to be more cognizant and thoughtful when it comes to designing the layout and visual elements of a site or product.
